UniSA Researchers Recognized as Global Influencers in Human Behavior and Environmental Sustainability. In a noteworthy achievement, three researchers from the University of South Australia (UniSA) have secured positions on the esteemed Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list for 2023. This list identifies the top 1 in 1000 scientists and social scientists globally, based on citations and rigorous qualitative analyses.

UniSA Inclusion in the Highly Cited Researchers List

This year marks the first time that UniSA has seen three of its researchers featured on this exclusive list. Professor Haywantee Ramkissoon, Professor Timothy Olds, and Dr. Binoy Sarkar have been recognized for the broad reach and impactful nature of their multidisciplinary research.

UniSA Remarkable Rankings Success in 2024

The recognition of these researchers follows a year of significant rankings success for UniSA. The university advanced in both the QS World Rankings 2024 and Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024. Additionally, UniSA debuted at an impressive 11th position nationally in the Australian Financial Review’s inaugural Best Universities Ranking.

UniSA Deputy Vice Chancellor on the Achievements

Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington AO, UniSA Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research and Enterprise, and Standing Acting Vice Chancellor, commended the university for its remarkable achievements.

She highlighted UniSA’s substantial rise in the QS 2024 rankings, citing improved scores in Academic and Employer Reputation indicators. Moreover, the university moved up 29 places in the THE rankings, a commendable feat in a year when many Australian universities faced declines.

The three UniSA researchers featured on the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list are:

Professor Haywantee Ramkissoon

With 166 publications and 5,383 citations, Prof. Ramkissoon’s research focuses on how people’s attachment to places influences behaviors that benefit the environment, ultimately contributing to well-being and planetary health.

Dr. Binoy Sarkar

With 205 publications and 8,807 citations, Dr. Sarkar employs multidisciplinary approaches to address challenges related to carbon removal, soil carbon storage, and sustainable agriculture, crucial for achieving global sustainable development goals.

Professor Timothy Olds

With 456 publications and 16,957 citations, Prof. Olds explores how people’s use of time impacts their health. His recent study tracked 365 adults, revealing consistent rhythms in body mass, physical activity, and sleep.
